Exhibitions in 2018*

In 2018, Museum Haus Konstruktiv will present an exhibition program that is rich in variety and devoted to various trends in constructivist-concrete and conceptual art. It all begins with a solo show by Alicja Kwade and a retrospective on Gerhard von Graevenitz. Conceptual artist Alicja Kwade (b. 1979, Katowice, Poland) asks questions of the world. In her multimedia work, she addresses a wide range of very different ideas and conceptual models to create pieces that are both formally stringent and sensorially poetic. Gerhard von Graevenitz (1934–1983, Germany) was a groundbreaking representative of kinetic art, op art and early computer graphics. His paintings, reliefs and objects fascinate by cleverly playing with order and chance. In summer, the museum will host Switzerland’s first institutional exhibition on the artist Imi Knoebel (b. 1940, Dessau, Germany). Knoebel, who attended Joseph Beuys’s legendary class at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the 1960s, is one of the world’s most famous geometric abstract artists. When he was still a student, he created Room 19, probably his most important early work, which will also serve as the starting point of the exhibition. Alongside this, Till Velten (b. 1961, Wuppertal, Germany) will present his latest work, structured as a research project on the subject of dementia. In the third batch of exhibitions, Austrian artist Helga Philipp (1939–2002) will be honored in an overview show. With her oeuvre, situated in the realm of kinetic art and op art, she made a key pioneering contribution to constructivist trends in Austria. In parallel, we will present the Zurich Art Prize for the eleventh time (winner TBA), as well as works by the Zurich Concretists from Swiss collections.
