Lost under the Surface

6 February to 10 May 2020
Opening: 5 February, 6 pm

This retrospective show on Brigitte Kowanz (b. 1957) conveys how, since the 1980s, the Austrian artist has been making it possible to experience the medium of light as both a stand-alone phenomenon and an information carrier.

The Proliferation of the Sun

6 February to 10 May 2020
Opening: 5 February, 6 pm

Light plays a central role in the oeuvre of the German artist Otto Piene (1928–2014 in Berlin), as do the elements fire and air. Alongside early paintings influenced by abstract expressionism, there will be smoke and fire paintings, light installations and air sculptures on display. The co-founder of the ZERO movement created an oeuvre that is still just as relevant today as it ever was.

Amalia Pica

In summer, Mira Schendel (1919–1988) and Oscar Tuazon (b. 1975) each have an exhibition dedicated to them. In the final quarter, we present London-based Argentine artist Amalia Pica (b. 1978) as the thirteenth winner of the renowned Zurich Art Prize. In parallel, we host the first institutional solo exhibition on Belgian artist Léon Wuidar (b. 1938).
