Exhibitions in 2020*

Museum Haus Konstruktiv begins its 2020 annual program with two comprehensive solo exhibitions. The retrospective show on Brigitte Kowanz (b. 1957) demonstrates how this Austrian artist has been using the medium of light since the late 1980s, to create objects that enable an experience of light as both a stand-alone phenomenon and (in the form of characters and codes) an information carrier. Light also plays a central role in the oeuvre of German artist Otto Piene (1928–2014), as do the elements fire and air. Alongside grid , smoke and fire paintings, Haus Konstruktiv is exhibiting light installations and so-called air sculptures, which this co-founder of the international ZERO movement began to experiment with in the late 1960s.

As a result of the corona crisis, the Mira Schendel and Oscar Tuazon solo exhibitions planned for the summer months were cancelled, and the Brigitte Kowanz and Otto Piene solo presentations are being extended until September 13th, 2020.

In the final quarter, we present London-based Argentine artist Amalia Pica (b. 1978) as the thirteenth winner of the renowned Zurich Art Prize. Engagement with historical and contemporary communication models is central to her multimedia oeuvre. In parallel, we host the first institutional solo exhibition on Belgian artist Léon Wuidar (b. 1938), who addresses not only the heritage of constructivist-concrete art, but also brutalist architecture in his paintings.
