Works on Paper
Drawings and Printed Graphics from the Collection

curated by Sabine Schaschl, Evelyne Bucher and Eliza Lips

October 28, 2021 to January 16, 2022
Opening Day: October 28, 11 am – 8 pm

For the first time, Museum Haus Konstruktiv is opening an exhibition that exclusively presents works on paper from its own collection. Selected printed graphics and drawings will be used to demonstrate this medium’s key role in the work of constructivist-concrete and conceptual artists.

Alongside working in painting and sculpture, most representatives of constructivist-concrete art were also active as graphic designers. Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, Karl Gerstner, Gottfried Honegger and Nelly Rudin all had a decisive influence on modern Swiss graphic design and helped it to achieve international renown. Up to now, this printed graphic work has rarely been brought into focus at Haus Konstruktiv. We would like to close this gap with a presentation of selected lithographs, etchings and screen prints by these and other artists, including contemporary ones. In addition, sheets by Ryan Gander and Wade Guyton reveal how, in contemporary art, this traditional medium is experimented with. Besides printed graphics, we present numerous sketches, drafts and drawings, which provide intimate insight into the work process and the artists’ conceptual world.

With works by: Max Bill (1908–1994), Burhan Doğançay (1929–2013), Ryan Gander (b. 1976), Karl Gerstner (1930–2017), Hans Jörg Glattfelder (b. 1939), Wade Guyton (b. 1972), Camille Graeser (1892–1980), Gottfried Honegger (1917–2016), Sol LeWitt (1928–2007), Verena Loewensberg (1912–1986), Richard Paul  Lohse (1902– 1988), Elena Lux-Marx (b. 1944), Jean Mauboulès (b. 1943), Nelly Rudin (1928–2013), Markus Weggenmann (b. 1953), Susan York (b. 1951) and many more.
